Our History
What began in 2000 as a simple act of faith has grown into a community-wide mission of hope, support, and transformation. For more than two decades, Mission 911 has walked alongside individuals and families facing hardship, connecting them with practical resources, compassionate relationships, and opportunities for lasting change. June 2000
A Vision Is Born
In an old preschool building, our founder felt called to create a place of refuge and renewal for the Coastal Bend. What started with a handful of friends and church volunteers—painting walls, moving furniture, and praying over the space—became the seed of Mission 911. -
April 2001
Becomes an Official Nonprofit
Grassroots faith turned into lasting structure as Mission 911 became a 501(c)(3). Local churches, businesses, and youth groups began joining the mission—proof that community can build something enduring. -
January 2003
First Major Grant Awarded
This transformative grant funded renovations that opened our doors to temporarily house unhoused men and families. Community volunteers—many of them students—helped clear rooms, lay flooring, and furnish beds, making the space feel like home. -
September / December 2003
Hogan’s Dorm & King Family Housing Open
A new chapter of hope begins as Mission 911 expands to meet the needs of both individuals and families. Hogan’s Dorm provides safe, stable housing for men rebuilding their lives, while King Family Housing introduces apartment-style transitional living—offering families a pathway from crisis to independence.

November 2003
Thanksgiving Tradition with NuStar Begins
A beloved tradition is born as families, churches, and youth volunteers come together to serve hot meals and hope every Thanksgiving.

May 2005
Walk to Siloam Launches
Our faith-driven mentorship and life-skills pathway begins, guiding men toward employment, sobriety, and stability. Local mentors, pastors, and volunteers walk alongside participants every step of the way—serving 340 men to date.

February 2011
Partnership with Methodist Healthcare Ministries
A trusted partnership bringing health, wellness, and faith-based support to families in need. This collaboration laid the groundwork for the holistic approach that would later evolve into our case-management model—built hand-in-hand with community volunteers and local providers.

July 2011
Partnership with TXU Energy
A cornerstone partnership that keeps lights on and hope alive—providing emergency utility assistance for thousands of families in crisis. Each year, community volunteers and student groups help distribute fans and resources during the summer heat.

First Poverty Simulation
Community leaders, students, and youth groups step into the shoes of struggling families—experiencing the barriers their neighbors face. These simulations plant empathy and spark advocacy across the Coastal Bend.

Beat the Heat Community Outreach Launches
Mission 911 and TXU Energy team up to distribute fans, water, and heat-safety kits each summer. Kids, scout troops, and church youth groups help load trucks, and handout fans—proof that compassion has no age limit.

Clothing Closet Opens
Restoring dignity one outfit at a time—equipping families for work, school, and new beginnings. Volunteers, students, and church members organize donations and help clients shop with pride.

Dental Clinic Launches
Breaking barriers to health with compassionate, low-cost dental care for neighbors who need it most. Local dentists, hygienists, and volunteers unite to bring smiles back to the community.

TXU Christmas Tree Giveaway
Each December, families receive trees, lights, and ornaments—a reminder that joy still shines bright. Children from local schools help decorate and deliver, showing what it means to give back together.

Mission Reimagined
A capacity-building grant revitalized our mission and strengthened operations—allowing Mission 911 to fully implement its case-management model. Today, staff and volunteers walk side-by-side with families to help them achieve lasting stability and hope.
